Purpose To provide high quality individualized services for children with developmental delays and multiple disabilities. The Mary Cariola Children's Center is dedicated to excellence in family-centered educational, residential, therapeutic, and community support services.
People served
Approximately 570 children, ages birth to 21, from Monroe County and surrounding areas. Programs are designed for children with all or some of the following: a diagnosis within the autistic spectrum, developmental delays, behavior challenges, prenatal exposure to drugs, and severe disabilities.
Programs MCCC individualizes programs to meet the unique needs of each child:
- Early Intervention Services. For children (under 2 years) and their families. Special educators, speech therapists and social workers provide single or multiple services to children in their homes, daycares, or in a classroom setting.
- Preschool Program. For children ages 3 - 5. Operates five days a week with morning, afternoon and full-day options. A variety of therapy and support services are an integral part of the program.
- REACH Program (Reaching Each Ability Children Have). Serves students ages 5 - 21 with mental retardation and multiple needs, most significantly, physical and medical. Nursing and other therapy services blend into and add support to the individual educational programs.
- SHAPE Program (Staff Helping Active Students Excel). Serves students ages 5 - 21 in small classes with a high staff-to-student ratio. An interdisciplinary team supports student progress, with a positive, proactive approach to complex learning, sensory, and behavioral needs.
- Residential Program. Homes in residential neighborhoods give children a chance to become active in their communities.
- Student Support Services. Therapy or support services may be integrated into classroom routines. Support services may include: Occupational Therapy, Behavior Therapy, Social Work Services, Psychological Consultation, Speech Therapy, Nursing Services, or Medical Consultation.
Locations The Mary Cariola Children's Center day programs are currently located at the facilities on Elmwood Campus and Feinbloom Campus. Group homes are located in the towns of Penfield, Greece, Pittsford, and Rush.
